Where do I find businesses to message?

Facebook groups. Pick a town and join its community group. Somebody posts asking for a roofer or a cleaner, and the owners pile into the comments to promote themselves. That’s your list, in any city with a Facebook group.

You want the ones with no website, or a bad one. Slow to load. No structure. Looks like 90s HTML. The bottom of the page still says 2022.

No website at all? Google the business. If all they’ve got is a Google Business Profile, they go on the list.

I do 20 touches a day on Facebook. Posts count too.

Scared to send it?

I was terrified of phone calls. Texts weren’t as scary, so that’s where I started. I did it anyway because I wanted freedom.

I’ve closed clients at $750 a month with a $2,000 setup without ever talking to them on the phone. Texts and Facebook DMs.

You don’t need a following. Mine means nothing here. Most of the people who pay me aren’t friends or referrals.

What’s the worst that could happen? They don’t respond. They say no. Then you’re in the same spot you were in before you sent it. But what if they say yes? Now your life has changed.

What does it cost to start?

You need a laptop. That’s the one thing you can’t skip.

Use a free AI. Host your demos for free. Don’t pay for hosting until you sell your first site, then use that money for hosting and an AI subscription.

My whole overhead is $130 a month. When you’re starting out, Hostinger is the one that matters most.

Got $500? Spend it in this order: a year of Hostinger, a Claude or ChatGPT subscription, and Build First.

What does a year in look like?

You work for yourself. You make money from anywhere. You can leave in the middle of the day to go get your kids.

Questions I get asked

Do I need to know how to code?: No. You need to know the right questions to ask and how to set things up. I haven’t changed code by hand in months.
Isn’t web design saturated?: It is. Most of it is people prompting AI a couple of times and calling it a website. No systems, no checks, no idea how any of it works. Set it up right and you’re not in that crowd.
What should I charge for my first site?: $1,500 setup and $500 a month. Say it with confidence. My first site sold for $250, and that was a confidence thing. Starting over, I’d go straight to $1,500.
I’m not in the US. Does this work?: People have done it from other countries. There are businesses everywhere that need a website. Start in your own market, being local is an upper hand. If $1,500 sounds crazy where you live, find the average and go a little under it. Selling to Americans? Then your English matters.
How long until my first sale?: There’s no set time. You go until you get one. Maybe it’s 100 messages. Maybe it’s 500.
Do I tell them AI built it?: I don’t bring it up, and I don’t lie about it. If they ask, I tell them the build is the easy part. What’s under the hood is what brings in the leads.
Can’t they just build their own site with AI?: Sure, and it’ll look okay. It’ll also be slow, with no SEO, no schema, no structure. It won’t be connected to Google Search Console or set up for AI search. That’s a brochure. You’re selling a website that brings in money.
Should I sell review management or AI automations?: Review management hasn’t sold for me. Most owners don’t want it. It works as an add-on, not a product. Automations can work, but agents are about to run that stuff for us, so I’m not putting my time there.
Can I get a discount?: If enough people ask at once, I’ll start a sale.

In 2015, I was in prison.

Pickaway, Ohio, for selling marijuana. When they let me out in 2016, a child support warrant sent me straight to another jail. No gate pay. Nobody’s number. I got worse before I got better.

Clean since 2017.

Then I spent $19,000 on a coding bootcamp.

I’m still paying on it. One company told me, “We don’t hire boot camp students.” The government jobs couldn’t hire a felon.

I wouldn’t touch AI.

I thought I had to learn everything by hand to get hired. When I finally said, “Let AI help me run my business,” everything changed.

God has led me here.

I make six figures with a computer and AI. I don’t clock in. I’m a stay-at-home single dad, which is still crazy to me.

I’m just an average, regular dude with a computer in my bedroom. No team. I tried what the other guys said to do, and it didn’t work for me. This did.
